Legend has it that a young Japanese girl named Hoshi started folding origami stars to save the falling stars she saw in the sky. People started folding and giving these lucky stars in jars as gifts for their loved ones.
Part of the CHINESE SCHOOL series by Diana Ho, originally shown at CCCSF Design Store as part of the On Growing Up in a Chinatown Store exhibition.
Each has 12 hand-folded lucky stars and a blank sheet of floral paper.
