From the artist: "These juzu, or Buddhist prayer beads, reference the ten main concentration camps that unconstitutionally imprisoned Japanese Americans during WWII. Buddhism (as well as Shintoism) is a faith that was taken from parts of my family during their assimilation in America. The beads, oversized and glowing with Japanese shino glaze, represent a reclamation of culture and spiritual centering."
