Sludgie the Whale was a baby whale that accidentally swam into the canal and a kind mascot for the canal. Gowanus Souvenir, in partnership with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, created the Sludgie the Whale Scavenger Hunt in his honor. By going on the hunt, you learn about the canal, why it’s so dirty, how they are cleaning up, and about the animals and plants that live here despite it being so dirty.
